Born in 1952, Sydney is a performance artist, devisor and creator. His interdisciplinary practice is concerned with spatial experience and the meanings the body takes on, in diverse situations and surroundings. Working with site, environment and designed sets, he employs cultural landscapes, architectural space and diasporic references as significant motifs in his performances.
He is curious about cultural differences and misunderstandings, rituals and ceremonies. Performing this year in Australia (Canberra, Katoomba, Sydney, Melbourne), Bandung, Chengdu and Melaka, he works with materials ranging from newspaper, sugar cubes, eggs, coloured water, shoes, spices, books and found objects.
